Fishing & angling
Angling & fishing in the Mediterranean or inland
There are basically 2 types of fishing on the Costa del Sol. Freshwater fishing and deep sea fishing. You can experience freshwater fishing in the Axarquia at the Vinuela reservoir and in the province of Granada on the "Rio Frio" river. Deep sea fishing boats are best rented from the ports in Velez-Malaga, Malaga and Benalmadena and Fuengirola, or take part in organized fishing trips. The largest tourist offer for fishing tours is in the port of Benalmadena. It is advisable to simply drive into the harbor and simply take a look at the offers for fishing tours. This is cheaper than renting a boat on the internet beforehand, which you can do. Since you need a fishing license, it is advisable to go on an organized tour or with someone with a fishing license.
General information
The Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts are ideal for fishing, with many yacht bases offering everything you need for a day at sea. The swordfish fishing is the most sensational, and has been immortalized in several feature films. From July to September swordfish are found off the coasts of Almería, Granada and Málaga, as well as in the Bay of Cádiz. There is also tuna that can be caught in the open sea. The tuna swim near the surface in the summer so they can sometimes be seen. Tuna areas are: Barbate, Zahara or Conil in Cádiz and Isla Cristina in Huelva. Mackerel, sea bass and sea bass on the Atlantic coast and bogue - a type of bream, corvina, gilthead, grouper and gaze fish, as well as around 150 species of shark - are also good entertainment.
